Zip Fusion – Restaurant Review

If you’re in the mood for a downtown adventure or romantic dinner, I recommend Zip Fusion across the street. While Wurstküche is brand spankin’ new, Zip Fusion has been around for eight years. And though the neighborhood has definitely changed (people don’t live in cardboard boxes outside the restaurant anymore), it feels like this part of downtown has retained its character and hasn’t undergone some radical artificial transformation.
Zip Fusion owner and founder Jason Ha is clearly the man in charge. He’s all over the place from the sushi bar to the adorable patio out back to his steakhouse and nightclub next door. Jason always has a smile, and makes sure that all his guests feel right at home (“zip” is Korean for “home”). And his friendliness is contagious: everyone seems to be having a great time. We ended up spending the rest of the night checking out some downtown clubs and lounges with the couple
at the table next to ours.
The sushi rolls are fanciful and delectable, some wrapped in tomatoes, others in avocados, and my favorite was the baked salmon roll with cream cheese and avocado. There’s also the Whisky and Soda Back Roll with no rice—Jason explains how this was invented one night after a long party by the chef as a treat for the staff. Reasonably priced with an array of sakes and nice bar menu to boot, Zip is open for lunch and dinner every day but Sunday.
So next time you hit the Downtown Art Walk (second Thursday of every month), head east a few blocks past Alameda to Traction and Third for some food culture when
you’re done with your art culture.

When was the last time you saw someone living in a cardboard box in this neighborhood?
